Workshop / Storytelling with Data

Data alone doesn’t drive decisions. Storytelling does.

An engaging, hands-on workshop that transforms how students and professionals present data — so they don’t just show charts, they drive action.

The problem

Data is everywhere. Insight isn’t.

Even the best data teams struggle when their insights don’t land. From business schools to boardrooms, the same issues repeat:

  • Data-heavy decks that miss the point
  • Presentations that confuse or bore
  • Missed opportunities to persuade or lead

Whether you’re early in your career or developing internal talent, this is a communication gap I can help close.

What the workshop covers

Five principles. One clear narrative.

01

Understand the context

Before you build a chart, ask: who’s in the room, what do they care about and what decision do they need to make?

Like planning a surprise party — knowing whether your friend loves loud music or hates attention makes all the difference.

02

Choose the right visual

Not every story needs a bar chart. Show change over time with a line; compare categories with bars.

Like Google Maps: you wouldn’t switch to satellite view to check traffic.

03

Remove clutter

Unnecessary lines, grids and labels fight for attention and hide what matters.

Like decluttering your closet — once the noise is gone, your favourite pieces stand out.

04

Focus attention

Use colour, size and position to direct attention to the key point.

Like a flashlight in a dark room. You decide what to highlight.

05

Tell a story

Facts tell, stories sell. Insights need structure, sequence and a clear ask.

Like a good joke — it needs setup, timing and a punchline.
